Starbucks Holiday Causes some Issues- Avery Yoss 4th

Starbucks just recently started using their holiday themed cups for the drinks they sell. This year, unlike the past years, it is just a plain red cup. No symbols such as ornaments or reindeer like in years past. A man named Joshua Feuerstein posted a video on facebook that went viral. He discussed in his video how Starbucks took the symbols off because they "hate Jesus." He wants to start a movement, in which when asked your name for the cup you say Merry Christmas, so that Starbucks then is "tricked" into including Christmas on their cup. Starbucks claims that they changed the cup to create more diversity for their customers.

I do not agree with this man at all. I, in fact, do not celebrate Christmas like many of Starbucks other customers but I still go to Starbucks because I know that they are just trying to celebrate the holidays. A plain red cup actually still has to do with Christmas because not all holidays are celebrated with the typical red and green colors of Christmas. I think that Starbucks is actually offending less people with their new cups.

  2. This argument in my eyes is just pointless and I don't see why it is gaining the attention that it is. There are many people who don't celebrate the holiday because they choose not to or because of religious reasons. Plus why is it that the design of a cup you're going to end up throwing away matter to you so much?

  3. I think that the people who are complaining about these cups are over reacting. I don't think that Starbucks is intentionally trying to "take Christmas out of their cups" -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex
