Lola and Helious Griffith were found dead in Helious's hospital room in Cardon Children's Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona at 2:00 am. Lola is believed to have killed her son before shooting herself sometime between the nurse's last bed check at midnight to the time of the next bed check and discovery of the bodies at 2:00 am November 7th. Helious had been hospitalized for the past week and suffered from Cerebral Palsy and Dystonia. Helious was 5 years old and would've bee 6 on Christmas Eve. The 27-year old Lola was a single mother and had started a founding page for her son's expenses stating that the final straw was her only car breaking down. Lola claimed that her son was afraid of hospital, doctors, medicine, and was sensitive to touch, sound, and odors. She noted his seperation anxiety if she was separated from her at any time. Even though gunshot wounds were found on Lola, no one in the hospital reported hearing gunshots at all. The hospital plans to keep a close eye on it's security even though this case is being ruled as a murder-suicide.
I think this case is really suspicious and there should be more help for parents of disabled children, especially single parents.
This is like everytime in history where a child has been killed or abandoned because of their disability. In China, baby girls have been abandoned because they were considered of lesser importance than baby boys. In ancient Greece, babies that looked weak were left out to die. By this point in medicinal advances and evolution of compassion, we should be able to better assist families taking care of children with disabilities.
This is absolutely horrible. I will never understand how someone could ever justify taking the life of a child, let alone their own child! - Sophie Kurzius (8)
ReplyDeleteI agree. Children are so innocent. They should be treated with respect and care, not with ignorance and violence.
ReplyDeleteBernadette NEgrete: children are sacred and if you believe that you might ever hurt one, you need to get help.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though the Griffiths weren't completely right in the head. If only there was a way they could have not killed their kids... - Gunnar Ozuna Period 6
