More than a decade later, missing Alabama boy found in Ohio - Erin O'Day

18 year old Julian Hernandez, Cleveland, Ohio, was filling out a college application when he discovered that his social security number did not match his name. Then, he discovered that he was actually listed in the national database for missing and exploited children, apparently having been kidnapped from his mother in Alabama when he was 5. It turns out his father had falsified his identity and is now facing several charges, while Julian is attempting to reconnect with his family in Alabama and make sense of this sudden change.

This is a really strange and unique case. I'm glad they've finally located him and I'm sure he's probably very confused and overwhelmed right now. But I can't help wondering how something like this happened... Why was this not discovered earlier? He's been living a normal life for 13 years, so it's not like he was hiding.

  1. It's odd how someones true identity can go unnoticed for so long. This reminds me of Benjamin Kyle, the man who was found unconscious in Georgia and had no recognition of his identity or a social security number.
