Flooding on Highway 183

http://www.fox4news.com/news/texas/41454698-story

Friday morning in Austin, Texas highway 183 was submerged underwater.  FOX 7 crew were out helping rescue people.  One person describes what it was like to be on the highway, "I saw the water and I saw the cars going the wrong direction, and I lost track of where the road was so rather than take a chance, I just stopped and the water came up so fast."  The people were saying that the water's current was so strong that it was just washing everything down.
Earlier this year, Texas broke a record from the year 2004 on the amount of rain we have gotten.  In May of this year we got 8.81 inches of rain statewide.  All of this rain reminds me of the big flood in Galveston in 1900.  The whole city was underwater and destructed.  Many people were found a few days later all over the streets.  After the big flood, everyone pitched in to rebuild Galveston.  Although the rain this weekend was not that severe as Galveston's flood, in both circumstances the community came together to help the people stranded in the water's current.

  1. This is crazy! I feel like nobody would even guess, Texas, out of all places would be the area to break the record for the most rainfall. Since it has become such an important issue, I think that we should learn more about water safety and how we can protect ourselves from issues like these.
