A new study found by CNN news shows that going without sugar for 10 days can make a huge improvment. In the study by Dr. Robert Lustig at University of California, Dr. Robert discovered the effects of going without sugar for 10 days with 43 subjects. He found that triglyceride levels dropped by 33 points, cholesterol dropped 5 points, and blood pressure also dropped 5 points. All of the subjects reduced their risk of diabetes by quite a lot, this should be true in both children and adults. Most of us think table sugar when we think of sugar, table sugar is made of glucose and fructose. Fructose is the bad part. Fructose is metabolized only in the liver. The liver can only handle so much at a time, the extra is turned into fat. This fat is very unhealthy, it can spill into your bloodstream and cause heart disease and strokes. In ancient times without high fructose corn syrup and all of these other artificial sugars, we got fructose in small amounts. But nowadays we consume 130 pounds a year. This study reduced the impact of sugar on the body immensely.

This article written by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN is very interesting to me. You always hear about how sugar is bad for you, but this article gives you scientific proof of the harm. This doesnt mean that everyone must cut out sugar completely, but now we know what good it can do, and so fast. Its definately something to think about. More people should take this into account for younger children. It is very true that people in ancient times would not be effected by sugar so much. They had none of the artificial sugars we have today, they had fruits and natural foods, therefore none of the health problems we have today.

ReplyDeleteI agree that parents should watch their child's intake of sugar, not only does it cause growing fat problems for the body as you stated, but it makes them super hyper and they crash later on, and it can give them cavities if they don't use proper hygiene care, which a lot of kids don't.
