Darby McMahon Pd#9 Chipotle-Linked E. Coli Outbreak

Health officials expect the E. Coli outbreak in Washngton state and Oregon to grow while they investigate the disease. On friday, the number of sicknesses had totaled 21 in Portland and Washington. Eight people have been hospitalized, but there have been no fatalities. A docotor from the Washington State Department of Health says that she expects a jump in cases this Monday. She has been warning all the people with certain symptoms to go see their doctors and get tested. They are conducting more tests to find the source of the infection, and testing the foods of many restaurants. Chipotle has voluntarily shut down all locations in the two states. There is no evidence linking this infection to other chains in other states, so all other locations remain open. The main focus right now is the testing and re-opening the Chipotles in Washington and Oregon.

This article was writen by The Associated Press, NBC News. This is a recent account of the E. Coli Outbreak around Washington and Oregon. I had not heard of this until i saw this article, and im glad i found it. The first outbreak the made  E. Coli a household name was in 1992. It was linked to hamburgers served by Jack in the Box in Washington. There were 602 cases and 144 hospitalizations. E. Coli is a scary thing, and i just hope that they can get it under control before it gets much worse. What surprised me was that i thought Chipotle was one of the healthiest chain restaurants. Hopefully this article can help to inform people around the world to be careful what you eat, and promote eating at home.

Things are not always as they seem in the restaurant business.

  2. This reminds me of the Bubonic Plague in europe as it was spread by trading ships. The ships, much like Chipotle, were delivering bodacious goods of which were eagerly awaited for, of which took a grisly twist when it spread a super bad disease instead! (Cue dramatic music)

I agree, this should promote eating at home. In fast food restaurants mostly all the food is stored and cooked in the same place so that it's easy for germs to spread. Not cool on the part of a restaurant I thought was clean. maybe there's something different going on in Chipotles up north.
