Chipotle recently closed 43 store locations due to an e coli outbreak. The outbreak has been in Washington and Oregon, over 12 cases have been reported as well as a recent spike in cases in the last week. It is unknown which meats (chicken, beef, or otherwise) the e coli came from. One woman Denise Mode who was infected has filed lawsuit for $75,000 for compensation. It has been thought that the infected meat came from the supplier or distributer. Chipotle voluntarily closed their locations and has been taking measures to get rid of the tainted meats.
This is very similar to when soldiers would get sick due to tainted food that had molded or been contaminated. I believe it was something like 35% of soldiers died because of poorly kept food.
This outbreak is terrifying, I have been an avid Chipotle consumer since a very young age. It is one of the few fast food resturaunts I am actually willing to eat at but after this report I am not as avid.

It seems like all of the really good food has been contaminated by a serious bacteria (Bella Di Fazio pd:8)
ReplyDeleteContamination is a serious issue and it is scary to think about that we have to seriously examine everything that we eat because you never know what could be used in our foods.
