"Moms who need mental health care the most aren't getting it"
In this article, a mom talks about several cases where new mothers have experienced depression after having a child. In one case, the depression caused a mother to throw her baby out of a window, killing the infant. The article talk about how women need to tell people when they have depression so they can get help and save not only their lives but the lives of their children. Some women can't speak out because of family traditions and some can't speak out because of the fear that CPS will take him away from them. In those situations, seeking help may be hard, but even if it is hard, they can't face the battle of depression alone.
I agree. It's awful that moms can't get the help they need through their families because of judgment and it's awful that CPS would try and take a child away from a mother who is trying to prevent anything from happening. I only wish the mother who murdered her baby would have told someone about what she was going through and we might have another human on this planet right now.

Postpartum depression really needs more awareness. So few people know about it, despite it affecting about 1 in 8 women after childbirth.
ReplyDeleteThis somewhat has to deal with the still low status of women in many countries. We are fortunate to live in a country where women are allowed to speak their mind and have valid opinions. I hope one day every women will get to experience that and not have to suffer.
