"1 Killed in Shooting in Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina" by Tea Perez 1st period

On campus of Winston-Salem State University, there was a shooting that killed one person and injured another. They were both believed to be students at the university. The school released a statement saying, "The suspected gunman is not believed to be a current student. The campus has been cleared; the gunman has not been apprehended." They also named the suspected shooter as Jarret Jerome Moore. Police received a call from the school's campus police around 1:20am. The Winston-Salem city police are assisting campus police with an investigation. The university sent out an all clear message on Twitter after having announced a campus lockdown in prior messages that called for people to shelter in places indoors.

This is yet another incident that has occurred because a gun has fallen into the wrong person's hands. I personally think that this year's number of campus shootings is far too high. To fix this, they should tighten the restrictions on being able to bear arms to fewer people to hopefully decrease the number of people to be killed.

  1. I am disgusted that, once again, we are seeing articles on school shootings. It's good that we are writing about them and bringing attention to the subject, but the fact that gun control is even a horrifying realization. The world is saying that enough is enough, so when are we going to see that statement in affect? Are we waiting on one person to fix this problem? How can we even effectively advocate for tighter gun control laws?
