Sisters Fight Back in India - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

In Haryana, India on Friday, two sisters who were harassed fought back. Ages 19 and 22, Aarti and Pooja Kumar had paper thrown at them by three men, who followed them onto a bus outside the college the two women were attending. Despite that no one else on the bus, and that some even shouted for them to stop fighting and leave, they consistently defended themselves and their attackers were arrested and the charges still pending. One of the other passengers on the bus filmed the incident which has now gained a lot of support and praise for the women's actions. And, as reward for their standing up for themselves, the sisters will be receiving rewards in January for their bravery.

It's heart-warming to know that society is beginning to change for women in that community. Not only are the sisters receiving awards for their actions, but their family is also very supportive of what they did. Which is surprising in that a lot of families discourage anything of the sort and discourage it strongly. But that's beginning to change and this is just one of the cases of 'a light in the dark.'
