Democratic state Senator, Wendy Davis’ last day of campaigning before Election Day tomorrow got off to an early start today in Austin, as she kicked off one of 900 block walks statewide that she said will help propel her to victory in a gubernatorial race that she predicted would define Texas for “generations to come.”
“We know that this race is going to shape the future of Texas for generations to come. We know we are choosing not just between two dramatically different people but two dramatically different paths,” Davis told more than 40 ebullient volunteers gathered at the Allandale home of Jim Bryce, the location that has been a beehive of Davis activity from the moment she announced for governor in October 2013. Davis is facing Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott.
“I don’t think it’s too dramatic to say that literally the future of our children depends on this race,” said Davis, who has made education funding a centerpiece issue in her campaign.
“What we’ve known all along is still true today,” Davis said. “If we get our votes out, we win.”
In that regard, Davis pointed to “some very encouraging things.”
“For the first time in many, many years we actually increased voter registration in a gubernatorial election year and we know, because we registered them, that most of them are ours,” Davis said. She said that just over one in four early voters was either a new registrant or someone who had not previously voted in a gubernatorial race, and “most of those are ours — we know because we’ve been tracking who they are.”
She also said Hispanic and African-American early vote turnout was up, which is another good sign for her.
“This is our final push to make sure that on Election Day, we have an incredibly robust turnout,” Davis said.
This article fills me with a lot of hope. The whole election reminds me pf many elections in U.S. history in the past. I LOVE Wendy Davis so much and I really, really, really want to see her win. I agree with what she said about the future of the children depend on this because it does. Greg Abott wants to focus more on earlier and tougher math and cares about saving and not teachers when it comes to education. Wendy Davis wants to provide universal pre-education;just think of how many families that could help and save! It's time for Texas to seriously grow up and out of its old ways and look toward a beautiful future with equality and freedom. And we can help achieve that by voting for Davis for governor. I am so eager for the results for governor tomorrow!

Even though Wendy lost the election this week, I still find her very inspiring and I'm glad that so many individuals found a voice through her.
