Twin girls Lexi and Lexandra Perez and their childhood friend Andrea Gonzalez were killed on Friday night, Halloween when they were hit by an SUV in a crosswalk a few blocks away from their house. The driver did not stop and they ditched the car a couple blocks away and ran. The girls were out trick-or-treating.
In situations like this, hit and runs, I always wonder about what would have happened to the people who were hit in this situation if they could have possibly survived if the person that had hit them would have just stopped to offer help. That is the reason we have laws in this country about people stopping and helping once an accident has occurred, the person in this situation has supposedly been caught and they will now have to face their consequences.

I don't understand how someone can just leave the scene like this. If you see that you've just hit kids then you need to stop, get out of the car, check to see if they're alright, and if they're not then you need to call for help or drive them to the nearest ER. I hope whoever did this is haunted with the guilt of his actions until the day he dies.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's extremely horrible that these girls' lives were taken away because of crime. We need to take more precautions when it comes to nightly events such as Halloween, and how we can approach them in the safest ways. -Elizabeth Muscari p6
