43 Mexican students are presumed missing after protesting the corruption of the government and addressing the situation that supposedly led them to their ultimate demise. Their bodies were thought to be beaten, burned, and thrown into a river by the cartel.
Honestly... Where do I start? This whole situation isn't something new, families are missing everyday. People are afraid to speak up because they don't want this to happen to them. What people don't realize is that the Mexican government is most likely affiliated with the cartel, and the cartel is just everyone's GO TO for anything that's gone wrong. This is the type of oppression people endured when moving to the U.S. This is the type of oppression that people of color endured during more than half of our American history, people killed by the government and groups they were affiliated with and no one says a word. Reforms and awareness, peaceful protests, and thought provoking speeches were flung onto an audience with closed minds and made them realize that what they were doing was inhumane.
It has been 100 years since the last Mexican Revolution, but the government is once again corrupted and polluted with oppression. Rather than a democracy, it is an oligarchy. My family watches as the people around them disappear and all I can do is sit and fear for their safety.

That's terrifying. Over this amount of time since the last revolution, you'd normally see some progress. But obviously, there has been little to no progress at all. It's very discouraging.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! It's so tragic because this kind of violence happens and has been happening constantly around the world for all of our recorded history.. Regardless, these kinds of happenings are awful and distant unless you know someone who has been involved or have been involved in them yourself. You gain a perspective and really realize how tragic and corrupt situations like these are, as well as how common.

This is very upsetting, Mexico is such a vibrant and amazing place with so much culture. It is a shame to see people suffer needlessly.
ReplyDeleteThey are taking a stand for what hey believe in! The situation is a common one, many things like this are taking place throughout the world everyday.
ReplyDeleteWow. This is very upsetting. People should have the right to say and share how they feel. I can't believe that 43 students were killed. I definitely agree with Hannah at this point.
