The church has opened this topic because of the past. There has been essays that shows signs of it. Joseph Smith is a person that had many different wives. It was stopped by the church because the
United States of America was pressuring them. They decided to excommunicate any one who had more wives. The church is trying to show its members what it really means. They say they have to come up with answers.
The different churches through out history have shown different views. Also the government has no power over the church. This shows that we have our freedoms no matter what. They all had different views and the Mormons had there own views. Since there leader was found doing this it shows how contradicting church can be viewed in America.

Ok well it is not still commonly practiced, just an FYI...
ReplyDeleteThe US offers freedom of religion. Just because a majority of people have a religion that opposes polygamy does not mean that people who practice it should be belittled.
ReplyDeleteI think polygamy is gross and there isn't a way for it to be justified.
ReplyDeleteThe Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints does not actually practice polygamy anymore. If so, it is a very small population. Now that the idea is going extinct, society is becoming more against it and are pushing towards demolishing the idea as a whole.

i find it ironic that polygamy is looked at with such hatred but gay "marriage" is not
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA! Oh orginized religion! You never cease to amuse me! Victoria does bring up an interesting point though. How come there are so many people opposed to polygamy, but not gay marriage. They are very different, but it's still interesting that people say "Marriage shouldn't be confined to one man and one woman", when this would fit that definition.
