Amazon is testing a new way of delivering packages, using drones. The goal is to deliver packages that weigh very little in 30 minutes or less using unmanned aircrafts called 'octocopters'. The CEO of Amazon said that this will not be available for at least four years as they further develop the tech and wait for the FAA to come up with new rules and regulations.
I think it is interesting that something that was originally developed for military uses now has the possibility of becoming utile in everyday life. When we hear the word drone we think of the things used to drop bombs during modern wars. We often associate them with death and destruction, but now they will be able to be used to help us in everyday life. These could have other uses, too. In case of an emergency they could be used to deliver medication or food to places that might be too dangerous for humans to venture.

ReplyDeleteThat is very strange. It's really cool, but it could have some downsides, too. Guess we'll just have to observe it more as it develpes.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that we explored the destructive side of this technology before the useful side.
