"'Escape from Tomorrow': The dark side of disney"- Madison Russell

"Escape from Tomorrow" is a film that depicts Disneyland, Disney World, and Disney overall as dark and haunting. The director Randy Moore's interpretation of what the company actually is directly contrasts the lighthearted, sprightly air that surrounds society's view of Disney.

Reviews of the movie label it as, "too weird," "horrible," "not bad, very different," "a colossal disappointment," and, "great." The article itself depicts the film as, " a darkly comic and unflattering critique of Disney culture." As many opinions as there are, the facts are consistent. The movie was filmed secretly, inside of various Disney hosted parks. Actors and crew were dressed as tourists, and used common tourist articles to disguise their gear. For example, scripts were held on cell phones, microphones were minuscule and placed as though they were being used for business purposes, and scenes were rehearsed in hotel rooms before they were shot in the movie. There was a large amount of risk going into the shooting this movie. The director admitted to being apprehensive upon its editing and release to Sundance Film Festival. Surprisingly, Disney has not reacted to the movie, nor has it sued as many have predicted.

This article was posted by Matthew Carey on Friday, November 1st. It is on CNN's Entertainment website.   Upon watching the trailer for this movie, it seems odd and unique. The idea for the movie is quite original and interesting. While I have not watched the movie, there seems to be disappointment and resentment from many of those who have. But then again, if I were satisfied with a movie, I'd be less likely to go and comment my views on how it was. I will not be watching this movie, it does not seem like it will benefit my life. Perhaps it interests Disney fanatics.

  1. I am very surprised that Disney has not sued the company that did this. Hopefully people won't watch this and think bad of Disney. I love classic and today's Disney movies.

  2. Im not surprised they didnt sue. If you they did sue, it would probably cause more harm than letting the movie run its course. But Disney is a huge commercial company, and every company is bound to have its issues right? I think these people are just looking for trouble

  3. I agree with Jack. Suing would warrant unwanted attention to the "dark" aspects of Disney. Disney is such a strong and well known company. I don't think this movie will cause much of an issue considering all of the millions of Disney fans in the world.

  4. I agree with Jack and Victoria, it would just create more bad press and bad spotlight towards this franchise and while "all press is good press", Disney does have a good strong reputation that shouldn't be sullied by this mess of a movie. Also it's just sad that they would make a dark Disney.
