New York City's annual Electric Zoo music festival was canceled this Sunday after two concert-goers were found dead and four others were hospitalized. The deaths of the two young adults at Electric Zoo are believed to have been caused by MDMA usage, while an autopsy has nonetheless been scheduled for further investigation. The four hospitalized concert-goers are suspected of heavy drug usage as well and are currently critically ill.
Electric Zoo has been a yearly three-day event since 2009. It is held at Randall's Island park in the East River and features electronic dance music, with general admission passes costing up to $179 per day. Electric Zoo's website has announced that everyone is checked for "illegal substances" upon entry, but that did not seem to prevent the tragedy that befell the festival on its final day.
I think it is hilarious how the administrators running Electric Zoo subconsciously know that this exact drug usage is happening at their festival but don't actually act upon until a few people die.
