Prank gone awry leaves Colorado teen dead.

When Premila Lal jumped out of a closet in Colorado on Friday night to surprise family friend Nerreck Galley, she was not expecting to meet her death. Premila was a teenage track star in Colorado that met her death in a tragic circumstance. Premila had entered the house that used to be her home(which is now the residence of Galley), Friday night without Galley knowing. He 15 year old brother was already in the home with Galley when she entered and made her way upstairs. She planned on surprising Galley but the sound ended up startling him and he grabbed a gun and shot her. Premila was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead and hour later. Galley has yet to be charged in Premila's death though he is being charged with reckless endangerment and child abuse because Lal's brother had access.

This death really struck me and being tragic. It was a death that didn't have to happen at all... but it did and it devastated a family and town. I can't imagine losing my life over what should have been a harmless prank. I guess it really makes you think about how the government regulates who can have a gun at any said time. If the gun had not been in the house Premila's death wouldn't have happened. Then again this isn't necessarily an issue of gun laws: more of just an issue of control. This was, after all, a freak accident. I think the reason Galley has yet to be charged in Premila's murder is because it was simply a freak accident. Still, Galley should not have had the gun accessible to Premila's brother. I think the main thing I take from this is that guns and surprises can be a lethal mix.

  1. I agree that it is a matter of control. Having a gun is one thing, but one of the first rules of gun ownership is that you only shoot if it's a life or death situation. This guy should have not just shot recklessly. It was a matter of control that caused this tragic accident.

  3. It is matter of knowing when to use a gun or not, this guy obviously was feeling bit anxious and nervous hearing the footsteps, but he should have just calm, a freak accident yes, but it could have been prevented.

  5. Well, for one thing, you should never assume people won't have this kind of reaction. Too many people are easily scared, and have extreme reactions to the object of their scare. whether that be a person, a fly buzzing by their ear, or a leaf floating by. I kind of don't blame the shooter for what he/she did, a random person in my home surely would be destined to meet the open end of my gun (I don't actually own a gun guys).
