Summary: In recent interviews with the new pope, Pope Francis, he's been asked his position on topics such as gay rights, abortion, and women's role in the church. Many people have been shocked by his responses. Pope Francis has been quoted saying that "the church has the right to express its opinion but not to interfere spiritually in lives of gays and lesbians..." and that "the feminine genius is needed wherever we make important decisions." The new pope says hes trying to take the church in a new direction, one with less politics and judgement and more love, acceptance, and truth. Pope Francis has been getting a lot of criticism because he hasn't been speaking very much on such controversial topics, but he stands firm.
Analysis: I like the direction that Pope Francis is trying take the Catholic church. It brings back some hope that maybe the Church can actually be centered around God's love and not just petty politics. I believe that though Pope Francis is getting criticism, he is doing the right thing by not being so open to discussion on those topics. He knows what he believes and doesn't feel the need to superimpose those beliefs on the world.
This has been very interesting to follow. This is reassuring in many ways. I support his beliefs very much.
