This year on September 7th, LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) was launched in Virginia from Wallop's Island Spaceport, which happens to be located on a wildlife reserve. The robotic spaceship journeyed on to orbit the moon, gathering bits of info regarding the moon's atmosphere.
Here on Earth, one unfortunate resident of the wildlife reserve explored our atmosphere, kind of. A photographer capturing the launch of the second rocket later found a strange shape amongst clouds of dust pictured. Upon further investigation, he found that the figure was a frog. The frog's current conditions are unknown.
I think that launching rockets from a wildlife reserve is a bad idea in general, and that this frog represents the negative effects our space adventures can have on the planet if we aren't careful. I hope that the frog is alright, and that the next time we cause a small explosion or something, we look around first.
