Summary:
A 15-year old boy. from Connecticut, committed suicide last week. The boy was a polish immigrant by the name of Bart Palosz. He was mostly bullied for his tall, lanky figure. Many people of the community said Bart was very mature and sweet. He killed himself with a family owned gun. There had been thought to be other possible suicide attempts in Bart's past. His family has flown him back to Poland to bury him.
Analysis:
I thought the article was very well written and laid out a nice timeline of the days leading up to the boy's death. It's very sad to see that this type of bullying is still going on. It really makes me want to do something about it. It made me wonder why we bully. This article is very thought provoking. Apparently the kid had attempted suicide before, if this was known why didnt anyone try to stop it. I find it very sad that we live in a world where someone would rather keep their mouth shut than save a life.

This is very sad, I can relate to Bart because we share the same characteristics and I was also bullied for this matter. We need to find a better way to prevent bullying. Thank you for this article.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. Bullying is kind of to the point where schools can't do anything to prevent the students from bullying one another, but students have to take it upon themselves to be more mature and respectable than to act in such ways. My heart goes out to the boy and his family. It's so sad that suicide is such a common thing in current times.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a disheartening subject to read about what bothers me the most is that despite all of the national attention that has been brought to the issue, it is still so prevalent in our nation.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a depressing post to think that someone was so mean to somebody else that it drove them to kill themselves. Bullying is really getting out of hand and it has been for some time, but people will never learn. Kids play to much not even knowing that they are really hurting somebody
People are so petty nowadays. We no longer have to worry about hunting for food, farming, or other everyday needs for survival. Many kids turn to bullying because they have idle minds and are insecure about themselves. It's very sad and upsetting that such a silly matter can lead to such a great tragedy. Not only the death of someone, but that they were forced to go through such misery because of ignorant bullies. I agree with Ashley that it is upon the kids to be more mature. However, society cannot rely on people's initiative and maturity to keep America's youth safe. I think it may be beneficial to provide more "easy access" help for people who suffer from bullying or suicidal thoughts. Someone to talk to, who they feel safe with, and feel they can confide in. Also, to promote stories such as this and focus on the consequences of the friends and family of the victim.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Gloria. We have to show people that being bullied isn't because there is something wrong with the person, it's something wrong with the bully. We have to show people that we care, just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you don't care about them. A liking is situational, a love is eternal...
ReplyDeleteAlthough school districts across America are always attempting to condemn bullying amongst peers, I don't think that we are putting enough emphasis on it until someone dies. It is a never ending struggle that causes people to carry their burden with them for the rest of their lives, spreading to their children, family, and friends. I don't think we can ever actually stop bullying, but we can be a lot better at supporting those who are close to giving up.
ReplyDeletethis is very very sad! bullying has always been a HUGE problem and the main cause for suicide. I believe schools need to do a much better job of noticing, or more importantly, PREVENTING bullying throughout the country!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many people out there that see something being done and don't do anything about it. Everyone needs to be brave enough to go and tell someone if something is happening because it could turn out bad, like it did for this 15 year old boy.
