Recently in New York, rules have been passed for animal lovers who want to stick together forever (literally) with their furry companions. These regulations grant that human ashes may be buried in pet cemetaries alongside the cremated remains of their pets. This is allowed, so long as "they don't charge a fee for it" or "advertise human burial services."
A report from a man named Ed Martin, who owns the Hartsdale Pet Cemetary, relates that only 5 to 6 people ask for their remains to be buried next to their pets every year.
I think that some people would want to be buried with their pet just because they were obsessed with their pet and spoiled them too much - which seems to frequently be the case in our culture today. However, if the person just wants to be buried by their pet because they were close companions, I think it's a very cute, sweet notion.
On the other hand, I think it's strange that these rules have only been passed in New York, and that so few people request to be buried in this way...what do you think?
