Enraged mom beats the crap out of kindergarten teacher- Madison Russell

This story was posted by The Daily Caller, on Saturday, September 7. Eric Owens, the Education Editor, is the author.
The beginning starts with a sort of thesis statement on what the article will be about: "The mother of a kindergarten boy in Kansas City received a citation for criminal assault because, police say, she inflicted a vicious beatdown on the boy’s teacher." It then goes into more specific detail, saying the beat down happened around 6 p.m. on a Thursday at Harry S Truman Elementary School.
An angry mother of a boy in the teacher's kindergarten class, Simone A. Baker was said to walk into the classroom and begin to beat the kindergarten teacher over something she was said to have done to the boy. There was uppercuts, punches, and a bit of slamming- all to the teacher. IT is no apparent if the teach fought back, but it can be assumed that she did not. The mother ran out of the school and off of the school property, leaving the teach to be found by the principal and another group of people (possibly other teachers).
The reason behind the mother's rage is that her boy came home from school that day with a cut on his neck. He said it was the teacher's doing. So the mother went and did what she felt she had to do (in a skull t-shirt, it was noted).
There will be legal action taken against Ms. Baker. The teacher was hospitalized and released.

While I understand why the mother would beat the teacher, I don't think it was the most professional thing to do. If she is convicted and for whatever reason has her kid taken away, she'll have no one to blame but herself. It would have been more beneficial to everyone if she had set up a meeting with the principal and teacher, waited for the principal to show up before she walked into the room, and brought her boy with her to show the evidence. It is one thing to protect your young, another thing to make the situation worse and possibly harm your young. Is the boy going to be removed from the class? That's one of my questions.

What I find funny about this article is the language and diction used to describe the incident. Mr. Owens thought it necessary to mention the skull t-shirt to make the woman seem more menacing. She punched, smashed, and jerked the teacher. Those are fighting, strong, negative words. It was as if he wanted to portray the mother as the ultimate bad guy, when the teacher's actions should have also been questioned. Even the title reflects from the beginning how the author wants to make the readers feel about Ms. Baker. It's interesting.

  2. I found your article very interesting and I agree that the teacher should have taken a different route on dealing with the teacher. There were definitely better ways for her to handle this situation. She should have known that her actions would have a negative impact on her and her own child.- Nia Edwards 5th period

  3. Although mothers become very protective of their children instinctively, it is almost always a better idea to handle the situation in a more civil manner. I hope in future times, the mother learns that there are much better ways to react to events like this.

  5. Every Mom has a certain point where there child can do no wrong. I agree with what you said Madison it could've been handled in a different way, whatever what she did maybe wasn't so bad a mother want to protect her child by all means.

  6. Ever a skeptic, I wonder if that cut was truly inflicted by the teacher. If so, that's horrible, and the teacher should certainly be reprimanded; however, what a way to file a complaint! Such is unacceptable.
