Summary: Denton Guyer football player
Nathan Maki was found dead in the back of a pickup truck on Saturday night. “He
was killed in a shooting incident near Bowie,” states Sheriff Paul Cunningham.
Nathan was an 18-year-old senior and the starting fullback for the Guyer
Wildcats.
Police have started an investigation into the
cause of the shooting. Officials
found a rifle at the scene and said that alcohol was believed to be a factor.
Police aren’t revealing many details on Nathan’s death, but Guyer’s coach, John
Walsh, believes that he was with other young people at the time of the
shooting.
Oschlor
Flemming, the schools running back coach, states, “Nathan is a great kid. It’s
evident by the people that showed up at the school. He always had big smile on
his face. I don’t think he had an enemy in the world. He was always happy. He
was one of the better kids in our program - just as a kid, period.”
Walsh
and the team were planning to meet at the school to pray for Nathan and his
family. “It’s amazing to see the Wildcat family come together at a tragic time
like this” says coach Flemmings.
Analysis: It’s very tragic that accidents like
these occur so often because we as young people have so much to live for. A lot
of times situations like these are very preventable. Maybe Nathan was just at
the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s sad because you never know when
something like this could happen to you. I bet this will take a huge toll on
the Guyer football team and I just hope they can bounce back from it.

This is actually really shocking to me. I didn't know this person or anything, but If I wasn't at Booker T., I'd be at Guyer. The reason I moved to Dallas from Denton was because of Booker T. This is just surprisingly tragic and shows just how many issues we have in our country, that was supposed to be a "More perfect union". Clearly we need a lot more time to achieve this goal.
ReplyDeleteTragedy like this is now a huge issue in life today. It's a shame this had to happened, and I do believe it was at the wrong place and at the wrong time. Justice will be served.
