1-year old shot in head in Brooklyn: Joan Milburn

http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/01/justice/new-york-baby-shot/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Antiq Hennis, a one year old Brooklyn Resident was being pushed in his stroller on Livonia Ave. around 7:15pm  Sunday evening when he was suddenly shot on the left side of his head. He was immediately rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead on the scene. Despite the horrible tragedy, the police offered no statement and offered no information regarding any arrests being made. 2 days before an 18 year old Georgia resident was convicted for shooting a one year old baby in Brunswick. De-Marquise Elkins( who shot the young boy in Brunswick) must serve a mandatory life sentence for shooting the child who, according to the mother, was shot after Elkins demanded money.

Response:
I am disgusted and upset greatly hearing of innocent children being shot for absolutely no reason. These children were literally helpless, not doing anything when they were just shot out of the blue. It makes me cringe to think that our society has come to something like this. The streets shouldn't be a place of peril, yet that is what it has become. Being close to young children myself( I work as a babysitter sometimes) I am simply floored that someone could be capable of such an unspeakable crime, unmotivated or motivated. I understand that details of one of the crimes has yet to be released, but the other one: motivated by money. Is any sum of money rally worth the life of an innocent child. I don't think so. I feel eternally sorrow and sympathy for those who had to say goodbye to their children in such a way.

  1. Other than the heartless crime , another focus I find myself conflicted by is our countries partake in both scenarios. Questioning: has our nation become a place where money is so pivotal in the declaration of moral standards? Reasoning with the fact that crime will always be present, especially in a large city can play into the safety of raising kids in cities is a high danger choice as demonstrated by this event.

  2. Yet again, another reason we should patrol the gun use in our country, They should be used by those licensed to use one, not by some lunatic that threatens our good people. It's even sadder that multiple children are killed by a bullet each day. This needs to come to an end.

    1. We do patrol gun use, but no matter what laws we change to better control guns, that 'lunatic' or some other 'criminal' could still find a way to retrieve a gun. The problem can't be solved just by changing who uses weapons.

Reading this made me so upsect and sad that some child had to get killed for no reason. This is why so many parents are scared to just let their child spend the night over their friends house, or walk the neighborhood, even something as simple as going to the movies. People with sick minds like this person has help ruin the world.

  4. I agree that we need stricter control over gun use, and I also agree that there are going to be people that try to get around that law (if it becomes a law), but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't at least try to make our cities safer. It is horrifying that even a little baby is not safe in these cities. Gun control laws will not solve the problem entirely, but I believe it will help at least a little.
