Daria Harper - 2nd Pd "Spying on Muslims"

Summary- The New York City Police Department is under close watch do to recent speculation that they may be overstepping a few boundaries of a community of Muslims living in New York City. Apparently, the NYPD has been engaging in activity that is much more invasive than anyone truly realized. It has been stated in a report by Associated Press that the NYPD has been basically spying on Muslims by showing up to hang out spots that they frequent dress in regular street clothes. They engage in conversation with the regulars to unearth information on what they claim to be "terrorists organizations," which are about a dozen mosques; nothing has actually been proven to show these mosques doing anything related to terrorist activity.

Analysis - This article was written by the Editorial Board of The New York Times newspaper, which is a group of 17 different journalists. The article was published in New York City on September 8, 2013. Prior to reading this article, I wasn't even aware of the fact that this was an issue taking place. Reading this article could have a biased affect on my opinion since it is the first I am hearing of the matter, and there is such a clear opinion. This article was written to shed light on the fact that some people's civil and human are, unfortunately, still in question today. This article is important because it makes the reader reflect on the fact that your personal freedom and privacy is something incredibly valuable; it's not really fair to take that away from people.

  1. It's sad that we still have so many stereotypes. We can see from the Boston marathon terrorist that not all terrorists are Muslims.
