Last weekend, it was getting dark in Times Square when three shots rang out in a crowd. A man had been weaving frantically in front of the traffic, and, when approached by the police, he put his hand in his pocket and withdrew it in a finger-gun, and proceeded to pretend to shoot the police. At this point, the police decided shots would be necessary to subdue this man. They shot three bullets, but none hit their mark. Instead, two innocent bystanders were shot. One woman in her knee, and the other grazed her backside. Neither shot was fatal, and both women were taken to the hospital in stable conditions.
I wish the article had included more information about why the police were following this man and why they deemed guns would be necessary in such a crowded place, because from what I read, it didn't seem like such a dire situation.
