A father of eight loses his life trying to save the life of his son who drowned in "Devil's Pool". It is a heart touching article of a father taking four of his eight children out on a back to school outing to Wissahickon Creek. It is very sad that the remaining three siblings were witness to the tregady of their brother and father drowning in the creek.
With the death of his father and brother, Jordan's older brother is going to partition for the city to close all dangerous creeks and rivers off in the hopes of preventing additional casualties. 17 people have been rescued from this creek since 2010. A total of six have perished in area creeks this summer. There were signs posted stressing the dangers of the water in that area. With the water starting out shallow then instantly dropping to deep water it is illegal to swim in the water where the tragedy happened.

The article was very clear on how this accident happened. You can tell they made sure to point out that the there were warning signs in the area where this tragedy happened. They also took a moment to express the grief of Mrs. Luciano of losing her son and husband. The story does offer closure by pointing out that Jordan's brother is going to try to keep this heartache from happening to others by requesting the city block access to these creeks entirely because clearly the warning signs are not enough.

ReplyDeleteThis is a really sad article. I couldn't imagine being a witness of someone in my family dying. It is very touching that the older brother is trying to get the city to take precautionary steps, like closing down dangerous areas like these, to prevent this tragedy from happening to others.- Nia Edwards 5th period
ReplyDeleteThis is a very moving story. I completely understand why the brother would want to make it illegal to swim in dangerous creeks. I also like how the writer of this article was respectful towards the family when sharing their story.
