Haley Bogdon - Florida Student Arrested for Refusing to Say the Pledge
This article was about a student who wouldn't participate in the pledge of allegiance and ended up getting arrested. A teacher who was a substitute in the district didn't realize that participating in the pledge was not a requirement in the district. The student said he believed that the pledge and the flag of America was racist so he was not willing to say it. At that point, the substitute argued with the student and then called the principal to remove him from class. Unfortunately, when the student refused to leave class, the police were called. The district said they did not agree with the substitute's behavior and they respect their students' rights to express their opinions. I feel that this situation could have been handled in a better way. If the student did not wish to participate, the substitute teacher should have let him sit quietly. The arrest and disruption of the class would have been prevented and the student had the right to protest the pledge.

This is crazy! I believe the student had a right to a peaceful protest and to remain seated during the pledge. Instead, they turned it into a bigger deal than necessary and took this situation out of proportion. Lily Philips
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with both of you. This was something that should not have mattered AT ALL but was instead it was blown out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteThe kid should have been more peaceable and so should have the school. People need to chill out about the whole flag thing and remember the 1st amendment.
