The truth is it is really sad, his son had to leave as well. Many people thought he was from Atlanta and the truth is he grew up there, he just isn't from there. The article talks about how black immigrants are targeted due to the racism that is still prominent in America. "We as a society should not view race and immigration status as mutually exclusive"
This relates to history because slavery is where all the assumptions started. Ever since slavery white people have felt a sense of superiority towards black people with no reason. Racism exists still in this day and age because of people who won't move past history that shouldn't ever had happened.
