Summary: Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun is an 18 year old girl, who recently escaped her family in Saudi Arabia, to seek refugee in Canada. Rahaf has been abused, both physically and mentally, for several reasons by her father and brother. She has attempted suicide, but had been stopped by her family, but was not given any immediate help or aid to her situation. When her family took a visit to Kuwait without her, she fled to Bangkok, however her passport and freedom was threatened by Thai officials. While awaiting on her flight, she opened up an instagram and twitter campaign that described her situation, and was offered safety and shelter in Canada. When she arrived to Toronto she was embraced by the country's popular foreign minister, causing yet another proud moment for Canada.
Analysis: This article was written on January 12, 2019, by New York Times. This means that the article and news are relatively up-to-date. This article can relate to other movements that fought for women rights, even as early as the Seneca Falls Convention led by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Rahaf fought, publicly, for her own rights and a religious freedom as an individual, and has become a social media sensation, inspiring many around the world. She stated that in one scenario of abuse, she was locked in her room for 6 months because she had cut her hair in a way that her family disliked. The target audience of this article is most likely women around the world, to inform us of this true act of courage and audacity. This article really opened my eyes as to how fortunate most of us are when it comes to religion and women's rights in America, and how others in different countries may not be treated as we are.

What happened to her is absolutely terrible. I'm glad that she was able to go somewhere safe.
