Passenger gets a firearm through TSA - Siobhan Crummey

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/13/us/tsa-gun-flight/index.html

On January 3, a passenger carried a firearm through TSA, without anyone noticing. The passenger arrived at the airport to catch a flight and went through security like anyone else but because of the fact that over half the airport staff had called in sick because of the government shut down, they carried a gun through security. The government shut down that has been going on for almost 4 weeks now is on its way to becoming the longest one in history.  People working in the government like TSA, parks and recreation, and power sources are not getting paid so there is no longer staff at the airport, the parks are overrun with litter and trash, and many other terrible things. And still, Trump REFUSES to announce a national emergency. He said in a statement "I will if I have to."

This relates to history because the longest government shutdown was December 1995- January 1996, but this one is about to make history. The audience is people how don't think this government shutdown is important, or a national emergency.  The purpose is to inform people who may not even know about it. The point of view is CNN, who's been reporting on the government shutdown for weeks now, so they know all about it. The importance is immeasurable, especially since hardworking government workers aren't getting paid anymore.

  1. That is an absolute travesty. It is outrageous that a gun is able to get through the agency that is specifically supposed to prevent such an occurrence. We desperately need this shutdown to end, or else who knows what could get through TSA. I would like to know what event in the Gilded Age this could be related to.

  2. This explains why I’ve been hearing sm about the current outbreak in crazy security lines in airports. It just shows we aren’t really safe anywhere and people will always find a way to cause a ruckus. Also, great connection and very well thought out!!

  3. I read the title of this blog and was low-key like what. I get it if some TSA agents are not coming to work because they are not getting paid, but the ones that do need to make sure they do their jobs right. If that person was bad and was to kill a bunch of people, whose fault would be. I think that is just very scary in general because TSA isn't being careful enough. - Joziah German
