Emma Burkey: So far, 2019 is proving the #MeToo fight is just beginning

This CNN article discusses how the #MeToo movement has already been working very hard and quickly this year. With the recent firing of the CBS CEO for sexual misconduct, the firing of an animation worker from Pixar and the strong allegations against R Kelly, the women behind the movement have spoken out about how they hope to see things change from the excusers getting "golden parachutes" after being accused to them never being hired again.

These women are truly role models to me. Not only do they speak out with their own personal stories, but they have the perseverance to stick to the movement even when it gets discouraging. In the article it discusses how a former Pixar employee who was accused of sexual misconduct was hired by Skydance; this is insulting to women everywhere because it shows this company putting their own personal gain before the rights of women. This article is important for everyone to read because it is a message that the #MeToo movement has never stopped and "is just beginning". The fight for equal treatment and respect seems to be a never ending one for women, but it continues with the faith that it will end with equality. This relates to Victoria Woodhull and her sister revealing to the public that a preacher had been having an affair for a prolonged period of time; more so it relates to all powerful men of the Gilded Age that thought their wealth put them above everyone else. We're no longer in the Gilded Age and its about time some arrogant people in power join us in reality.

  1. It seems a total paradox how we live in one of, if not the most powerful country in the world, yet half of our population has just recently come about into their own rights and ideas being acknowledged and respected. It is important that these predators get more than a slap on the wrist and a time out and be properly held accountable for their absolutely shameful and inexcusable actions.
