Partial Government Shutdown Worries Young People- Gracie Zytynski
In an article by the New York Times on January 15, 2019, Dan Levin writes about the effect of the government shutdown on children. Without a paycheck in weeks, people are unable to pay their bills, food, or college tuition. According to the article, children have been taking notice of their parent's behavior change and as an effect the children have been stressed and worried. To help their families, children have been trying to sell things online, including soap scrub, comic books, etc. In Washington, public schools have offered free or reduced price lunches for those whose parent's have been furloughed. Trump now thinks that we now have problems in our country where parents can no longer provide the basic necessities for their families because they no longer are receiving paychecks. This article is very important because it shares how the government shutdown has effected the families of the U.S. This connects to the Gilded Age because during this period the U.S. was known for its opportunities and freedom, yet in the U.S. today families are undergoing hardship where they are not being paid, not providing opportunity.

This is crazy that he can't see that this shutdown is hurting families and is taking away those families way of life and its gotten so bad that children are now trying to do anything they can to help their parents and if that doesnt show him anything i dont know what will.
