The past couple of weeks, cruise ships have been in the news several times. For my article this week, I read about a teenager who died on a cruise.
A 16-year-old teen from the South Pacific died on a Royal Caribbean cruise last week. The ship was docked in Haiti at the time of the accident. The young man, Laurent Mercer, did not have his room key when he decided to attempt to get into his stateroom from the balcony in the room next door. He slipped, from the 8th level, and fell onto the concrete dock below. First responders did attempt CPR, but the boy died of head trauma.
Royal Caribbean, in a terrible coincidence, was also the cruise-line where hundreds of people became sick with a stomach virus just a week before.
This event can be closely related to the Titanic event. In 1912, another fatal accident caused the death of hundreds of passengers. Just like the teen who died last week, these passengers were on what they thought would be a great vacation but turned deadly.
Its so sad that this is becoming more and more frequently but I agree that this does connect to the Titanic incident and they really need to do something to try and fix it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a scary situation to think about and I hope that these things can be avoided in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I too hope that this problem gets fixed soon!
