In a CNN interview, Tulsi Gabbard announced that she is planning to run as the Democratic nominee of the 2020 presidential election. She wants to be able to help with the challenges that American people face, and she wants to focus on the central issue: war and peace. There are some controversial opinions surrounding Gabbard, especially regarding foreign policy. She opposes military intervention, and she has been criticized for attending a secret meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad. On this issue, she spoke of the fact that whatever your opinions on him, he is still the president of Syria, and you need to be able to have a conversation with him to reach a peace agreement. In addition to this, others have said that in addition to a lack of experience, she isn't accepted by liberals or conservatives. Gabbard is one of the two female combat veterans to ever serve in Congress, and she is the first Hindu to serve in Congress. Along with Gabbard, several other Democrats have expressed interest in running in the election next year.
This article was written by an author who didn't express any opinions on the subject, therefore it seems to be pretty unbiased. The purpose of the article was to inform the audience, but for me, it also provoked a lot of thoughts about the future and our society. If Gabbard wins the election, she will be the first female president, and the first Hindu president. That is a lot to achieve, and it will most likely involve enduring lots of backlash. In our country, there is supposed to be a separation of church and state, but there is a lot of Christian influence. Our Pledge of Allegiance includes, "...under God", and in court, individuals swear on the Bible. I'm predicting that there will be some people who are not happy to have a non-Christian president, but that's just my guess. I would also like to point out that Republican spokesman Michael Ahrens mentioned Gabbard lacking experience, despite the fact that President Trump had no former political experience, so as a member of Congress, Gabbard already has more experience than him. In the Gilded Age, women were beginning to join the work force in bigger numbers. Gabbard is also joining a male-dominated area of work, which will hopefully inspire other women to do the same.

This article did make me think about the future as well and what could possibly happen. Having Gabbard being the first female and Hindu president is a huge accomplishment. But i do also agree that their will be people that will be very much unsatisfied with the idea of that happening.
ReplyDeleteI would vote for her. I feel like the only people who know what its like to be a minority, who has been on the front lines and wants to make a change for people and not for selfish business is worthy of leadership. -Tiya Caldwell
ReplyDeletePeople already don’t seem to be super excited about the idea of Gabbard being president, so I’m not sure how good her chances are but I agree that it would be a huge accomplishment to have a female, non-Christian president.
