"We will be out for a long time unless the Democrats come back from their vacations and get back to work" is what president Donald Trump tweeted Saturday morning. America is currently in its longest federal government shutdown in American history as we enter into the 4th week and unfortunately, there is no end in sight. Trump recently took place in an interview with Philip Rucker of the Washington Post. Trump claims he has a plan on the shutdown, but he also said, "To understand the plan, you have to understand that I won the election, and I promised safety and security for the American people. Part of that promise was a Wall at the Southern Border. Elections have consequences!" With this statement, Trump has shown his determination to keep his promises and to get what he wants, even 800,000 federal employees are currently working without pay. On the opposing side, the Democrats are standing their ground by resisting his calls for a border wall. The Democratic party has gained the majority for the first time in 8 years by winning 40 seats in the midterm election. As this feud between Trump and the Democrats continue to impact the country and the unpaid workers, we could only hope that this issue resolves soon.
