Father kills 14 yr old son for being gay
Nevada father allegedly shot and killed son for his sexual orientation. His son, Giovanni Melton, was gunned down by his father after having an heated argument with his father, Wendell Melton, because of the fact that Giovanni had a boyfriend on November 2nd. Giovanni's former foster mom, Sonia Jones, stated that his father hated the fact that Giovanni was gay and probably thought it was better to have a dead son than a gay son. She also stated that Wendell had caught Giovanni with his boyfriend once and pulled a gun out on him. The police said that they received a domestic disturbance report on the 2nd and found Giovanni in critical condition.
Giovanni was rushed to St. Rose Dominican Hospital where he died from his injuries. The police said that the teen lived alone at the apartment he was found in. The next day, Wendell was arrested and charged with open murder, child abuse, and prohibited person possessing a firearm. I think it's crazy to hate someone because of their sexual orientation! In my opinion, to be a good parent you have to love unconditionally no matter what and Wendell Melton couldn't do that. I guess that explains why Giovanni was living on his own and was previously in the foster program. Overall, I think it's terrible that Giovanni was murdered at such an early age over his sexual orientation and I hope his father gets what he deserves.

I hate that people are doing terrible things to their kids now because they can't accept them. Is it really that much to just say ok and try to support them?

ReplyDeleteI don't understand how a person could do that to a kid let alone their own child. Its an amendment to have your own beliefs. This "father" is no father at all. I was so sad to read this because he's around our age...I hope the family will heal and the father never gets out of prison. People can be sick and in my opinion the father should go to a mental institute.
ReplyDeleteI already think it's wrong to disown your child for their orientation, but this is just insane. It is your job as a parent to make sure that your child is safe and healthy and this violates all of that. Parenting aside, the fact that he felt so strongly against someone being gay that he thought he could kill them should land him in an asylum.

ReplyDeleteThis is DISGUSTING. I cannot believe that a parent could ever even disown their child, and this guy MURDERED his child?? This man needs to be locked up for the rest of his life. It's absolutely horrifying to me that this kind of hate exists in our world. I feel so awful for the boy who was killed.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely outrageous. I cannot and will never understand why people can't seem to accept people for simply LOVING A PERSON WHO HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME SEX. This is insane. Killing your own CHILD? I hope the ABSOLUTELY NORMAL Giovanni Melton is in a better place than with his homophobic MURDERING father. I can't believe this.
ReplyDeleteSexual orientation comes with its challenges, but being treated this way by a parent (because of it) should not be a challenge! I understand that a parent could be upset about their child's sexual orientation, but it is no reason to love a child any less.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely insane. Parents are supposed to foster and care for their kids, and most importantly love them no matter what. This is disgusting to me. There is so much hate in our world. The fact that a parent would MURDER their child simply because of their sexual orientation is vile. We need to learn to accept one another because we're all human beings who breathe and love.
This is terrifying, cannot believe the world.

ReplyDeleteBeing a queer female, this is absolutely terrifying. What is wrong with this world which preaches for fathers to hate their children for being themselves? I am astonished someone is so heartless and could do something like this. Older individuals were raised less open-mindedly and it is understandable that they may not be accepting right away, but how hard is it to simply talk out your feelings?
ReplyDeleteNot only is it difficult to comprehend a parent that hates their own child, but a parent that kills their own child. It breaks my heart to see cases like this because it reminds me of the amount of work we need to do to try and help those leave their abusive homes.
