Quite recently, Americans have encountered a tremendous shock when the largest mass shooting in modern U.S. history took place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. This shooting resulted in the death of 58 innocent civilians and a total of 500 wounded people. Stephen Paddock, the murderer behind this mass shooting shot a security guard, Jesus Campos, in the leg before opening fire on concertgoers. At 10:05 PM, Paddock shot numerous rounds into the extremely packed crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino. He fired for about nine to eleven minutes straight killing and injuring many people that happened to be around the area. According to a police timeline, Paddocks final shots were fired at 10:15 PM. "By the time officers entered the room, Paddock was dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound". Authorities still don't know what made Paddock stop shooting at this specific time, nor do they know why he committed this crime which resulted in his suicide.
Analysis:
After hearing about this incident from my mom the morning after the shooting, panicked overflowed through me because my dad was in Vegas at the time. He was 3 blocks away from where the shooting happened and he could have easily been one of the victims that got injured or killed. Stories like this cause so much fear in my life because I never know if I would have to experience a situation like this.
