The U.S military is conducting two primary missions in
Yemen, a counterterriosm mission targeting al Qaeda in Yemen and non-combat
support to the Saudi-led coalition. Yemen is currently afflicted by a civil war
between the Houti rebels whom control the Country’s north, which includes an internationally
recognized government backed by Saudi Arabia and control over Yemen’s capital. On Sunday the Houthi controlled defense ministry
divulged that it had shot down an American surveillance drone in the outskirts
of Sanaa (Yemen’s capital). MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle that was shot down, is under
investigation and the pentagon will not say that mission the U.S drone was
supporting citing security concerns.
The
U.S conducts counterterrisom missions in Yemen targeting al Qaeda, since January
2017 the U.S military has conducted over 100 strikes in Yemen against Al Qaeda in
the Arabian Peninsula. This information which comes from the pentagon led me to
believe that the U.S drone being shot down should come as no surprise due to
the U.S conducting many strikes in Yemen, the Houthi probably attacked the drone as a form of defense because they view the U.S as a threat.

I am curious to see what happens, but part of this is our fault, for we didn't do a good job flying it.
