Students Walker Out After Teacher Orders: Speak 'American' - Chloe Walker

Students of Cliffside Park High School stage a walkout after a video of an English teacher telling students who were speaking Spanish to speak "American". The footage show the teacher stating offensive comments to the students. Stating that U.S. soldiers are not fighting for your right to speak Spanish but to speak American. She then excused 3 of the students who were speaking spanish out of her classroom. Around 100 students walked out the school in protest of the teacher's actions.

The actions of the teacher to those who spoke spanish were negative but, the outcome of the school coming together in protest shows a positive influence. This article is important because it highlights the issues of discrimination and how it could easily be inside the education system.
