Manon McCollum - New STD cases hit record high in US, CDC says

http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/26/health/std-highest-ever-reported-cdc/index.html

Cases of historical std's like Syphilis and Chlamydia are at record highs. More than 28,000 cases of syphilis were reported in 2016: a staggering amount for a disease we haven't seen for generations.

This news is very disturbing to me, and it only supports the fact that we need to have sexual education in this country. If people don't use contraceptives and get tested regularly, they could get syphilis, which is something that only pirates and old timey politicians should have.

Syphilis was introduced to the european population by way of the native americans. The sad part is that the white settler-colonizers that got these sexually transmitted diseases probably didn't get them by having consensual sex with the native population. So maybe it serves their ancestors right that they are getting syphilis once again.

  1. When it comes to the expansion of sexual education, though, quality is just as important as quantity; it's a little crazy how many states have laws that singularly allow abstinence-only education or don't even require information presented to be factually accurate.

  2. The amount of sexual education that is lacking in our you country is apparent with these facts. While we teach kids what sex is and how to live without it, we don't teach them of the ways to prevent these dangers without an abstinence-only policy.
