Madeline Sabedra: "As Overdose Deaths Pile Up, a Medical Examiner Quits the Morgue

Dr. Thomas A. Andrew works at the state morgue, and he has given us some insight of the causes of so many deaths. Drugs. We all know it's out there, but I don't think we fully understand the impact drugs make on our lives. Dr. Andrew worked at the morgue for two decades, and retired about a month ago to "explore the mysteries of the soul". There was a total of 64,000 drug overdose deaths last year, and it has become the leading cause of deaths for people under 50. Drugs have been reducing the human life expectancy! Dr. Andrew has noticed how much drug overdose deaths have increased throughout the years, and he is disgusted by this sad reality.

I feel like this is a very important article. We all know that drugs are out there, and we know how harmful they can be, but some people still use drugs (despite the known danger). I'm interested to know why drug overdose deaths have been increasing so much. More awareness of the dangers of drugs need to be spread.

  1. I agree that more awareness of the dangers of drugs need to be spread. Drugs are a dangerous substance and I feel that it is a topic that people don't necessarily know how to talk about.

  4. Drug awareness is out there, it's just the youth tends to ignore the dangerous reprecussions that could occur from partaking in drugs. Teenagers including myself tend to think "it could never happpen to me"( it being fatality, harm to themselves or others and possibly being introuble with the law). Due to the prefrontal cortex not being fully developed we tend to have the mindset were invincible and unfortunatly thats not the case. I've seen teens partake in drugs after being educated in drug awareness and knowing the consequences that could occur from doing drugs. Yet partakeing in them regardless because they come to the conclusion "that it wont happen to me".
