Starting Sunday evening wildfires started to spread throughout several cities in Northern California. The spread was slow at first but by Monday evening he dry conditions allowed the fires to spread rapidly and efficiently across the state. As of now 11 have been confirmed dead and over 100 are reported missing or injured. The fire and rescue team says that with the current conditions they will not be able to get ahead of the fire, only being able to keep it at bay until conditions improve. This is expected To occur later today or in the next coming days.
This kind of natural disaster is the most predictable but the least likely. October is the driest month of the year for Califormia, and a hotspot for forestfires according to officials, however it is very hard to look at the carnage with a lot of hope. Halves of cities reduced to ashes, landmarks unrecognizable due to damage, it’s going to be yet another thing to get through this year. We will just have to grit our teeth and bear through it.

Climate change has actually caused California and the west in general to have a drier dry season. We need to act quickly to reduce the effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible, first the hurricanes, then the earthquakes, and now the wildfires.

Wildfires can cause so much damage. They can start from something so small and cover so much space and do so much damage.
ReplyDeleteThis is indeed terrible, but it you can find comfort in knowing that wildfires are important for the health of forest ecosystems, and while people can always run away or change their habitats, for the bird species that reproduces best only in wildfire conditions, such an event can be necessary for survival.
ReplyDeleteThe worst part about wildfires is that they can come out of no where. We have an idea of where they might occur, but that area is so large it is almost impossible to monitor all of it. If you could build a system that detects fires right when they start this could shorten the reaction time it takes to put out the fire, which would lower the amount of damage the fire can cause.
