The latest: Texas Dems apologize for 'campus carry' tweet
on monday, october 9th, 2017, a fatal shooting happened at texas tech unviversity resulting in the arrest of a 19-year old student. from hearing the news that spread late monday, the texas democrats twitter account posted "allowing concealed guns on college campuses was a dumb and dangerous idea."
this referred to a law that took place last year allowing texans with concealed carry permits to bring concealed guns into university classrooms and buildings.
critics pointed out that you have to be 21 to get a concealed carry permit and that the student was only of 19 years of age.
texas democratic party deputy executive director Manny Garcia said in a statement that "our words were inadequate, hurried and we apologize." adding that the tweet had been removed.
authorities say that Hollis Daniels III fatally shot officer Floyd East Jr. while being booked on a drug possession charge.
