Chloe Villa-Abrille | Two Die in the Grambling State University Shooting

Grambling State University has just lost a student, Earl Andrews, and that student’s, “friend,” Monquiarious Caldwell, both were fatally shot on the school campus. The attack seems as though it was derived from personal matters and not so much as an act of random targeting, deluded thoughts, or for an extreme ideal or terror act. The staff and other students of the school seemed to be some what shocked over the matter, saying that they warn students of these dangers and how they could be met with them, but sadly, these warnings failed to keep these students out of these dangerous situations.

Recently written by Keith Allen and Holly Yan, and published by CNN this article is used to inform the general populous about current events and happenings across the country; however, this article is published in a time where gun control is being questioned, this story would be a good support for the argument that the right to bear arms is an out dated amendment that is only causing our country grief. At the moment the allowance of guns for “protection” is in efficient. You wouldn’t need to protect yourself if the threat wasn’t there to begin with, yet people argue and ignore these events that show the possible dangers of guns. Since 2015 there has been a total of 142 school shootings, and the number will only continue to grow if we do nothing. Not to mention the Las Vegas shooting, showing that these dangerous weapons should not be ever so easily accessible to any who want them.

  1. It drives me little crazy when people argue shootings such as this and the numerous others in recent American history were possible because they occurred in "gun-free zones", and bystanders were therefore unable to intervene; however, if it were truly a gun-free zone, then the perpetrator wouldn't have had a gun either and not even the attacker would have been shot.

  2. What bothers me most is the fact that people assume gun control means no guns for anyone. We're simply wondering why you need machine guns and we're making sure that people that do carry firearms are mentally sane with no signs of repeating past violence.

  3. It is hard to believe the amount of shootings there have been on college campuses just this year. I hope we are able to get this issue under control so the students remain safe.
