Trump Says He Will Release Final Set of Documents on Kennedy Assassination
Saturday,
October 21,2017, President Trump made the decision to release thousands of
classified documents pertaining to the Kennedy Assassination via Twitter. The documents were supposed to have been
released in 1992 to put an end to conspiracy theories, but were never
published. President Trump has the power
to stop the release, and has been advised to do so by intelligence agencies,
but people who want transparent government want them to be released; there is
still a possibility that Trump might stop some.
Intelligence agencies think that the documents could hold important
national security information, but the general public does not know what to
expect if they do get released. People
suspect that the main story line will stay the same, but some hope that
questions about Lee Harvey Oswald get answered, and others think that the
release will just spark more conspiracy theories. President Trump has messed with conspiracy
theories before, taking aim at Senator Ted Cruz’s father, Justice Antonin
Scalia, and even Barack Obama. The set
date for the release is October 26, this Thursday, so we will have to wait and
see if the documents get released or if the pressure gets to the President and
he decides not to.
The article
was written by Michael D. Shear for the New York Times. The article was written on October 21, but
the article might not be as accurate because the President may have changed his
mind over the weekend because the release is scheduled for so soon. I think that most people, especially in
Dallas, have a basic understanding of the Kennedy Assassination, but people
always want to know more, and the release of the documents is supposed to
answer questions that people have about the assassination. The article was written for people who are
curious about the documents, whether they want them to be released or not. The article was written to inform people
about the upcoming release date and to prepare people for the documents, and
the backlash President Trump might get because of it. The article is important because lots of
people feel that after 54 years that the full truth about the assassination
should be public knowledge, and it really shows that the public never gets the
full truth about things going on in the government. In the past, the government has declassified
documents and we have learned about Nazis, Cold War surveillance, and Fidel Castro,
so will we learn about Lee Harvey Oswald from this suspected release?
