In California, people are going to the hills near Los Angeles to pan for gold. Some are using a pan and some are mining using tools. This is all illegal and could be very harmful to the environment.
This reminds me of how when the British colonies came to settle, we took the land that was the Native American's originally. Taking minerals that should stay in the land, the people who are taking gold from California are doing it against the law and without permission.

People will do a lot of things in their quest for money- unfortunately a lot of people not care about how their actions will effect the environment. Hopefully Californian officials will do something to stop with from happening.
