Madison Harvey: President Obama announces $90m to help clear unexploded US bombs in Laos

Summary: Between 1964 - 1973 Laos became the most bombed country per capita.  Due to the Vietnam War were North Vietnam was trying to conquer South Vietnam the United States jumped in to help stop that from happening.  Mines were placed all over the land from both sides of the war.  Mines are explosives buried in the ground that will blow up if anyone steps on them, but the problem is no one knows were they are buried.  There are so many of them that when the war was finally over the mines were left behind.  The people of Laos suffered, mines are still to this day killing innocent people.  In the past the United States just pushed this problem aside.  Most Americans didn't even know the problem existed, until the issue was brought up by Barack Obama.  Obama, the first sitting U.S president to visit South East Asia, announced a further $90 million to help those maimed or injured by the explosives and to pay for future clean up efforts.

Analysis: This article was written by Andrew Buncombe and published by a web-sight called Independent.  It was written to inform you about these accuring insodents and what has beed done to try and stop them from happening again.  There are no personal opinions from the writer he just lays out the facts so you can use your own interruption.  What has been happening to the people of Laos is horrible.  I heard about this before and how dangerous it is to live there.  I have heard that locals were trying to remove the mines , but it is still a dangerous job.  I'm glad there is finally some help going out for them to lift some of the weight off their backs.
