Brittney Delpey: Obama Gives Internet to ICANN?

This article was written by Daniel Jennings who works for Off the Grid News. He remains to have an unbiased point of view while stating over political figures biased opinion. This article was written October 7th 2016. This article was written to let the public know the threat to their freedom of speech right.

The Obamas administration transferred the U.S. authority on internet web addresses to the "Internet Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers". This gives other places like China and Iran control over the internet addresses in a set up similar to the United Nations. The stakeholders consisted of 164 national government representatives. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz believes it's a threat to the internet. Other figures such as the Wall-street Journal publisher L. Gordon Crovitz, and U.S. Representative Marsha Blackburn agreed with Cruz. In contrast to this other figures such as U.S. Senator Chris Coons believes this could actually increase our freedom of speech. This connects to the 1st amendment that gives citizens the freedom of speech.

Prior Knowledge: I didn't have any prior knowledge of these events before reading this article. I personally don't know how that would affect our freedom of speech since the article gives contrasting opinions and reasons.
